Cleaner & Sealer

Proper Countertop care and maintenance depends on the stone you have.
Capital Granite recommends Miracle Sealants for Natural Stone Care & Maintenance.

Granite & Quartzite

Your natural stone countertop was sealed during the fabrication process.  For your daily cleaning, use a clean cloth and a mild liquid dish soap & water to wash the surface, rinsing and drying the countertop. Select a product such as Ivory Dish Soap that excludes animal fats and dyes. For granite only, a mild solution of vinegar and water may be used to remove smudges, streaking and oils.

While Granite and Quartzites are very durable, use trivets for hot items and cutting boards to protect your knives.

To maintain the seal we recommend using Miracle Sealants 511 Kleen & Reseal on a monthly basis.

Marble, Onyx, Limestone, & Travertine

Your Natural Stone countertop was sealed during the fabrication process. For your daily cleaning, use a clean cloth and a mild liquid dish soap & water to wash the surface, rinsing and drying the countertop. For best results select a product that excludes animal fats and dyes such as Ivory Dish Soap.

You will need to take extra care to avoid contact with acidic products as they will etch the stone surface and could leave unsightly dull or brownish-spots. Products to wipe up immediately include – contact solution, vinegar, tomato based products, makeups, lotions, and hairsprays.

Since natural materials such as Marble, Onyx, Limestone, Travertine, and Soapstone are softer and can more easily scratch, chip and dent. Prior to purchase we will go over this and you will be asked to sign a waiver of acknowledgement.

To maintain the seal we recommend using Miracle Sealants 511 Kleen & Reseal on a monthly basis.

Soapstone

Soapstone is chemically neutral and will resist acids and alkalines, making it impervious to typical household stains.

Cleaning Soapstone: Soapstone can be easily cleaned with a solution of soap and water or mild cleaning products. Cleaning products containing oil will darken the stone. Soapstone scratches more easily than granite, so abrasive cleaners should be avoided. Soapstone will naturally patina with age. Prior to purchase we will go over these care instructions and you will be asked to sign a waiver of acknowledgement.

Oiling Soapstone: Oiling Soapstone is not necessary for care and maintenance. Oil is applied for aesthetic purposes only. If you prefer the darker look of soapstone, saturate a clean cloth with generic mineral oil, liberally applying to the countertop surface. Allow the product to sit for several minutes; however do not let it get tacky. Use a separate soft clean cloth to remove excess oil and another one to buff dry.

Resealing Natural Stone

Natural stone countertops (Excluding Soapstone) are sealed at the time of fabrication; prior to installation. If a splash of water no longer beads up on the surface, it is time to reseal.

Saturate a small clean cloth with the Miracle Sealant 511 Seal & Enhance solution, applying liberally until the stone looks wet. Allow the product to sit for just a few minutes; do not let it dry. Use a separate soft clean cloth to remove excess sealer and another one to buff dry. Only seal the material in one area at a time, (approx. 6-8 square feet) until the tops are complete.

Engineered Quartz

Engineered Quartz does not need sealer and is highly resistant to staining and etching. We recommend cleaning countertops with Miracle Sealant’s Counter Kleen.
